Idoan Marciano

Energy and Electric Vehicles Technology Specialist

Idoan Marciano supporting the research team to produce a roadmap for the energy transition in the transportation sector of Indonesia. He helps to model electric vehicles (EVs) penetration in the future and estimate its potential to reduce emissions. He is also working to assess various options in creating a low-carbon transportation system, including biofuels and energy efficiency improvement.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, and he worked as Junior Consultant at PT LAPI ITB shortly after. There, he grappled with industrial problems in oil and gas sector, mainly focused on troubleshooting fractionation column operation. Realizing that changes need to happen in Indonesia’s energy sector, he took up a master’s degree in Energy Science Technology and Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in the US. During his time there, he exposed to numerous energy and climate change mitigation projects. He covered topics like lithium-ion battery modeling, unit commitment for power network using dynamic programming, and feed-in-tariff regulation for the Moroccan government to support energy market liberalization. He was genuinely interested in clean-energy entrepreneurship, which drives him to get involved in several business case competitions. Idoan was also a finalist in Columbia University Energy Case Competition for presenting a techno-economic feasibility analysis for clean-energy microgrid to improve a city’s power resiliency posture.

In his spare time, he likes to do outdoor activities. He competes in the marathon, he trains in boxing, and he likes to go hiking and diving.
