Benita Sashia Jayanti
Climate Diplomacy Program Officer
Benita Sashia Jayanti, usually called Sashia, is the Climate Diplomacy Program Officer at IESR. Specifically, Sashia is tasked to actively carry out diplomacy functions, establish diplomatic relations with embassies, governments, and policy makers, facilitate discussion events and media briefings, and analyze the dynamics of the development of climate change action and energy transition, especially in the ASEAN region.
Sashia earned a Bachelor of Social Science (B.Soc.Sci) in International Relations from Diponegoro University and received a full scholarship from the Government of Indonesia (LPDP) to continue her Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Development: Politics, Governance and Development Policy from The University of Manchester.
Prior to joining IESR, Sashia has worked in international cooperation and international development program management in Indonesia. She also specializes in other fields, such as political and economic cooperation, sustainable development cooperation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, coastal resilience and climate migration, and sustainable infrastructure and investment. From this experience, Sashia is often invited as a speaker at universities and several international conferences such as the “BlueUrban Conference” organized in collaboration with The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research and the Centre for Strategic and Global Studies (CSGS), University of Indonesia. After graduation, Sashia was also appointed as a lead mentor to teach in the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies student exchange program on climate change and climate migration in coastal Indonesia.
In addition to her work at IESR, Sashia is currently the first youngest Board of Trustees and Board of Supervisors for Plan International Indonesia. This position will be held for a period of three years (2024-2027).
Outside of work, Sashia enjoys swimming, traveling to cities in Indonesia and other countries for culinary and cultural tours, and exercising, especially brisk walking which she does almost every day.
