Climate Diplomacy Program Officer

Angga Kusuma Wijaya, or can be called Angga, is a Climate Diplomacy Program Officer at the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR). Angga is responsible for conducting research and implementing climate diplomacy activities in East Asia and the Southeast Asia region. He also helps implement projects related to the green economy and just energy transitions in Indonesia.

Angga originally comes from Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, a region dominated by coal mining industries. Since his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Mulawarman University, Angga has been actively involved in advocating for environmental issues, along with local civil society organisations, indigenous communities, and farmers whose land was polluted by coal mining activities. This experience motivated him to continue his studies at the Australian National University, majoring in Master of Public Policy, specialising in Environment and Public Policy. During his studies in Australia, Angga wrote various academic papers on environmental issues in Indonesia and was involved in the Canberra Uni Student for Climate Justice. At IESR, Angga aims to continue his advocacy for achieving net zero emissions and climate justice.

Outside of his professional activities, Angga actively plays many types of sports to keep himself fit, such as volleyball and table tennis. He also loves to read, watch movies, and play chess with local residents in his neighbourhood.
