Energy System Transformation Program Officer
Muhammad Reza Putra, or Reza, currently serves as a Program Officer for Energy System Transformation at the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR). In this role, Reza contributes to the design and implementation of strategic work plans aimed at accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia. He is also involved in policy advocacy efforts with the government and supports public communication initiatives.
Reza holds a bachelor’s degree (D4) in Energy Conservation Engineering from Politeknik Negeri Bandung and participated in a student exchange program at National Chin-Yi University of Technology, Taiwan. Prior to joining IESR, he worked as a Project Engineer for solar power plant (PLTS) projects, particularly off-grid systems located in remote, underdeveloped, and outermost (3T) regions such as Papua, Sulawesi, and the Riau Archipelago. In this role, he was actively involved in project management, site surveys, technical analysis, and stakeholder and community engagement.
Reza also has international experience, including developing solar energy training modules for local workers in four African countries in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). He is frequently invited to speak at various events, including as a guest speaker at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia on “Renewable Energy Challenges and Opportunities in Indonesia” and as a keynote speaker in the Belajar Elektro webinar with the topic “Basic Solar Energy for Beginners.”
In addition, Reza has hands-on experience in collecting data related to energy transition implementation in developing countries, particularly in Indonesia, as well as in preparing method statements and conducting troubleshooting for solar energy systems. He is also an active member of the SDG7 Youth Constituency under the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UNMGCY), and the founder of Antara Charity, a community initiative focused on social outreach and educational support.
Reza has a strong interest in sustainable energy issues and youth empowerment, particularly in 3T regions. He enjoys writing about self-development on Medium and frequently serves as a moderator or master of ceremonies at public events. In his free time, Reza enjoys running marathons. He also has hobbies in cooking, reading novels, and visiting museums.
