Webinar Road to Indonesia Energy Transition Outlook 2026: “Toward a Green Future with Sustainable Building Transformation”

Background

The progress and developments in Indonesia’s energy transition are specifically reviewed in one of IESR’s flagship reports, launched every year-end: the Indonesia Energy Transition Outlook (IETO). Published since 2018, IETO, formerly named the Indonesia Clean Energy Outlook (ICEO), aims to regularly monitor the progress and developments of Indonesia’s energy transition, and to identify challenges and opportunities for the following year. The report covers analysis and review of policies, technological developments, and the energy transition ecosystem.

Over the years, IESR has striven to enhance the scope and analytical rigor of this report. This eighth edition of IETO also compiles diverse perspectives from energy sector stakeholders and curates them with in-depth research to provide a strategic analysis of the energy transition progress and the transformation toward a low-carbon energy system in the country. This year’s IETO launch expands the scope of discussion to be more comprehensive, highlighting energy efficiency, the energy transition landscape, and the sub-national level.

Through IETO, IESR aims to inform policymakers and all stakeholders in the energy sector about the effectiveness of policies and the necessary improvements to accelerate the development and transition toward a clean energy system in the country. Thus, it is hoped that Indonesia can ensure energy security, a competitive economy, and a transition toward a sustainable energy system in the near future.

IETO 2026 will be launched as a hybrid event for policymakers, the private sector, and the public to understand the emerging trends in the energy transition in the coming year. Discussions in this meeting will highlight the energy transition processes occurring across various energy sectors in Indonesia, followed by an analysis of the energy transition readiness framework in Indonesia’s electricity sector and various lessons learned in 2025 to address challenges in pushing the energy transition in 2026.

This year, IETO has the theme: “Golden Indonesia, Green Indonesia: Examining the Synergy of Indonesia’s Energy Transition with National Economic Growth Ambitions.” This theme was chosen to emphasize that the synergy between the energy transition and economic growth ambitions can be achieved to realize Indonesia’s demographic dividend in 2045.

One aspect covered in IETO is the building sector. The use of various service needs for cooking, cooling rooms, and lighting rooms are part of this sector. Technological advancements lead to increased efficiency, which then impacts the decreasing energy needs to obtain the same services. Matters related to energy use conditions, electrification penetration, and energy intensity in the building sector are interesting to present in a Webinar to reach a broad audience. The theme for this webinar, “Toward a Green Future with Sustainable Building Transformation,” represents the hope for the transition of the building sector in achieving the major goal of a clean and sustainable environment.

Objectives

The objectives of the Road to IETO 2026 Webinar are as follows:

  • To present the results of the analysis of energy conditions in the building sector and its role in decarbonization.
  • To review and evaluate the progress of the energy transition in the building sector.
  • To provide a policy dialogue forum for stakeholders with policymakers, business actors, and civil society organizations in the process of promoting environmentally friendly buildings.
