Alvin Putra Sisdwinugraha

Power Systems and Renewable Energy Analyst

Alvin works as an Electricity and Renewable Energy Systems Analyst at IESR, starting in 2023. His work includes electricity system studies and modeling, conducting studies on renewable energy technologies particularly solar, wind, and energy storage, and collecting data & information on the progress of renewable energy development.

Alvin completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering in 2020 from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). He continued his master’s degree at the same university and graduated in 2021, focusing his research on power electronics topology and control for renewable energy applications. His master thesis entitled “New Three-Phase Voltage-Source Inverter Based on Modified Buck-Boost Cell”, proposed a new solution for common-mode ripple in three-phase applications. He was also previously involved in several projects with SUN Energy (2019, as an intern) and LAPI ITB (2021), covering technical review of solar projects and mentoring projects on power quality, power system modeling, and policy & roadmap recommendations.

After graduation, Alvin joined Patriot Energi, a program from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that aims to provide energy access in the most remote areas of Indonesia. He spent 1 year in remote Mappi Regency, South Papua, conducting feasibility studies for off-grid solar power plants, as well as working with local communities to empower the people of Samurukie Village in Passue Bawah District through several programs such as the initiation of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), capacity building for local leaders, and technical assistance and roadmaps for the local government of Mappi Regency. Together with his friends, he co-founded the Girls and Women in Renewable Energy Academy (GAWIREA) in 2022, an initiative that aims to empower rural girls and women through renewable energy access, conducting some of their first pilot projects in Samurukie Village and Mentajoi Village (Sintang District, West Kalimantan).

In his spare time, Alvin spends his time doing various sports including soccer, tennis, and running (he aims to complete a full marathon by 2025). He also occasionally writes on his personal blog (https://medium.com/@alvinpebe) on various topics. Together with his friends, he initiated Wani Marajut (https://www.instagram.com/wani.marajut/), a social enterprise that aims to empower the women of Samurukie Village by selling traditional noken handicraft products.
