Alvin Putra Sisdwinugraha
Researcher in Power Systems and Renewable Energy
Alvin works as a Researcher in Power Systems and Renewable Energy at IESR, starting in 2023. His works include power system studies and modeling, conducting studies on renewable energy technologies (particularly solar, wind, and energy storage), and compiling data & information on renewable energy development progress.
Alvin completed his Bachelor’s in Electrical Power Engineering in 2020 from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). He continued his master’s degree at the same university and graduated in 2021, focusing his research on power electronics topology and control for renewable energy applications. His master thesis titled “New Three-Phase Voltage-Source Inverter Based on Modified Buck-Boost Cell”, proposes a new solution for common-mode noise on a three-phase application. He was also previously involved in several projects with SUN Energy (2019, as an intern) and LAPI ITB (2021), including solar projects technical reviews and assisting projects on power quality, power system modeling, and policy briefs & roadmaps.
After graduating, Alvin joined Patriot Energi, a program by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources aiming to provide energy access in Indonesia’s most remote areas. He spent 1 year in the remote area of Mappi Regency, South Papua, conducting a feasibility study on an off-grid solar power plant, as well as working collaboratively with the local community to empower the people of Samurukie Village in Passue Bawah District through several programs such as village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) initiation, capacity building for local champions, and technical assistance and roadmap for the local government of Mappi Regency. Along with his friends, he co-founded Girls and Women in Renewable Energy Academy (GAWIREA) in 2022, an initiative aiming to empower girls and women in rural areas through renewable energy access, conducting their first few pilot projects in Samurukie Village and Mentajoi Village (Sintang Regency, West Borneo).
In his leisure time, Alvin spent his time doing multiple sports including football, tennis, and running (he’s aiming to complete a full marathon by 2025). He also writes occasionally on his personal blog (https://medium.com/@alvinpebe) on various topics. Along with his friends, he initiated Wani Marajut (https://www.instagram.com/wani.marajut/), a social enterprise aiming to empower the women of Samurukie Village by selling traditional handcraft products of noken.
Prior to joining IESR, Ilham worked in a Dutch company, Noppies (Nine&Co), on researching transformation towards a circular business model. He also contributed to other circular economy projects including textile and plastics as well as projects that involve community empowerment in Indonesia and Netherland.
Ilham took his master’s degree in Environmental Policy chair-group at Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands. Previously he studied at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Public Policy and Management-International Undergraduate Programme (IUP PPM). In 2017, Ilham took part in a student exchange program at Agder University, Norway for 6 months, studying International Development.
In his spare time, Ilham likes to travel to new places, try local foods, and watch Netflix as leisurely activities.
