Benita Sashia Jayanti

Climate Diplomacy Program Officer

Benita Sashia Jayanti or can be called Benita is a Climate Diplomacy Programme Officer at the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR). In this role, she analyses the political dynamics and policy progress on climate and renewable energy across Southeast Asia, including ASEAN, and other key multilateral forums where Indonesia plays an active role—such as BRICS, G20, and the UN Climate Conferences (COPs).

Benita is responsible for the analytical and policy-oriented knowledge products, including diplomatic briefs, policy memos, recommendations, analysis papers, and op-eds focused on ASEAN and Indonesia’s climate action and energy transition progress. Other than Southeast Asia, she also monitors other multilateral partnerships and identifies how they shape Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s renewable energy and climate ambitions.

Beyond analysis, Benita also leads IESR’s climate diplomacy and advocacy strategy, engaging with key stakeholders such as the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), ASEAN Centre for Energy, ASEAN embassies, and the ASEAN Secretariat, while expanding collaborations with regional and national think tanks and civil society organizations (CSOs).

She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (B.Soc.Sci) in International Relations from Diponegoro University and a Master of Science (MSc) in International Development: Politics, Governance and Development Policy from The University of Manchester, funded by a full LPDP Scholarship from the Government of Indonesia.

In addition to her work at IESR, Benita currently serves as the youngest member of the Board of Trustees at Plan International Indonesia (2024–2027). Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, water sports, traveling for culinary and cultural experiences, and daily brisk walks.
