Denpasar, June 22, 2025 — A clear sky graced the morning in Batubulan Village, Gianyar Regency, where the Voltrada Bali Workshop was officially inaugurated. A neat lineup of electric vehicles stood ready to embark on a meaningful journey on Sunday (22/6/2025). The atmosphere was festive yet charged with enthusiasm during the Melali Energi Terbarukan event, organized by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), in collaboration with Voltrada, Poltrada Bali, and New Energy Nexus Indonesia.
The event formed part of the inauguration of Voltrada Workshop and the launch of the Climate-based Entrepreneurship and Innovation Workshop, themed “Concrete Steps Toward Decarbonization through Electric Motorbike Conversion Technology.” This cross-sector collaboration emphasized that the energy transition is not solely the responsibility of the government, it is a collective space for communities, industry players, and individuals who care about the planet’s future.
The ceremonial start was marked by the waving of the flag by the Head of the Bali Provincial Office for Manpower, Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Mr. Ir. Ida Bagus Setiawan, ST., M.Si., accompanied by Mr. Ida Bagus Putu Ari Chandana, ST., M.Si., Head of the Energy, Electricity, and Mineral Resources (EKTL) Division. Following the signal, a convoy of 18 electric vehicles began cruising through the streets of Denpasar, an environmentally friendly procession that also captivated the attention of locals.
The main destination of Melali was Bali Mandara Regional General Hospital (RSUD Bali Mandara), home to a 100 kWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS). Commissioned in 2019, the solar system is connected to the grid and has been operating reliably, supplying energy to the hospital’s main building. I Gusti Agung Putu Aditya Mahendra, Head of the General Administration Subdivision at the hospital, explained that the system has successfully reduced the hospital’s monthly electricity bills by around IDR 1–2 million.
“This is not just about saving money,” Aditya highlighted. “It is also a tangible contribution by the hospital in supporting the clean energy transition in Bali. RSUD Bali Mandara is even planning to expand the PLTS capacity when the opportunity arises, as part of our continued commitment to the region’s decarbonization agenda.”
More than just an electric vehicle ride, the Melali experience offered the broader narrative that sustainable living is not only possible, it is already starting to become part of daily life. The enthusiasm for Melali Energi Terbarukan was evident, with 30 participants including clean energy advocates, students, members of the Dewata Electric Motorcycle Association (ADAMOLIS), and the public, all invited to witness first-hand implementation of renewable energy up close.
