In order to achieve the target of 13 million electric motorcycles by 2030, the government encourages the conversion of conventional fuel-based motorcycles to electric motorcycles. This step needs to be accompanied by an emphasis on conversion prices so that the economic value can be achieved.
According to the Executive Director of the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) Fabby Tumiwa, electric motorcycles, both conversions, and new purchases, must follow the tastes and consumers of society. “The decision to buy or convert a motorcycle is generally still driven by economic factors, not environmental factors. Unfortunately, the conversion to an electric motorcycle is not yet economical,” he said when contacted on Sunday (22/8/2021).
