Jakarta, December 18, 2025 – Direct access to energy, especially renewable energy, determines a community’s quality of life. Therefore, community involvement and increased knowledge about the use of renewable energy must be continuously carried out through various educational channels.
Since 2021, the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) has been assisting the Kampung Warna-Warni Cililitan community to develop their capacity to recognize and use rooftop solar power plants (PLTS). At that time, IESR installed a 0.7 kWp rooftop PV system at the community hall.
In 2025, IESR held another training session for the Kampung Warna-Warni Cililitan community on Monday (11/17), focusing on replacing the battery storage system, which had deteriorated in performance. This series of activities began with an online PLTS class, followed by an in-person class focusing on identifying situations and problems with the installed solar panel system, as well as battery replacement and installation.
Nur Kasim, Head of Neighborhood Association (RT) 1 in Kebon Pala Village, Cililitan, stated that the use of rooftop solar power plants (PLTS) at the community hall in 2021 has helped support communal activities and reduced electricity bills.
“Our residents are also enthusiastic about participating in the operation and maintenance process. Fortunately, some of our residents understand solar power plants and have received training, so we have been able to manage the operation and maintenance independently,” he said.
Mainstreaming knowledge about renewable energy is also crucial for building a green workforce. Rooftop solar power plants are a sector that requires many skilled workers and does not require a high level of education thus it can be an entry point.
Fauzi, from Neira Solar, an IESR partner in this training series, stated that this activity contributes to efforts to build awareness about clean energy and create green workforce capacity.
“Solar energy, in this case solar power plants, can be used as a demonstration model because of their flexible installation locations and public visibility,” Fauzi said.
