Background
The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) invites proposals for a high-resolution regional energy modelling study to chart credible, least-cost pathways for ASEAN to achieve a 100% renewable energy and industrial system by 2050. The study will support national and regional decision-making by simulating decarbonization scenarios across power, transport, and industry—integrating technical, economic, and policy factors.
As a leading energy and climate think tank in Indonesia, IESR has been advancing a just, inclusive energy transition across Indonesia and Southeast Asia since 2007. Building on its experience with national deep decarbonization studies, IESR now leads this regional initiative to deliver transparent, actionable insights for an energy-secure and climate-aligned ASEAN.
The study will explore three scenarios (Best Policy, Delayed Policy, and Current Policy) using hourly modelling to assess decarbonization of electricity, transport, heating/cooling, and industrial fuels, while factoring in sector coupling and regional cooperation. Optional themes may include ocean energy, agrivoltaics, and energy storage. The output will inform policy recommendations to guide ASEAN’s clean energy future.
