Daniel Kurniawan

Researcher, Photovoltaic and Materials Technology Specialist

Daniel Kurniawan is a solar analyst (researcher) at the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR). At IESR, Daniel primarily covers Indonesian solar policy and market and has been involved in many solar-related consultancies with government agencies and local/international counterparts. In addition to his main role, he also supports other research and advocacy agenda on the broader climate change mitigation and the energy transition (primarily in the power sector).

Prior to his current role, Daniel was a solar cell researcher and was trained in materials science. He is currently interested in how technology, economics, and policy intertwine in shaping the low-carbon energy transition. Daniel holds an MEng in Nanomaterials Science and Engineering from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology School, South Korea, and a BEng in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the University of Indonesia.
