Accelerating the deployment of renewables in Southeast Asia (SEA) region has been quite intensive discussions’ topic as the global energy transition is underway. The rapidly growing economies and electricity demand of the region shape the energy outlook towards achieving a secure, affordable, and more sustainable pathway for the energy/power. In IEA’s latest report on the energy outlook of the region, some power systems in the region are facing significant financial strains as most of the investments backed by the public funds. As a consequence, mobilizing private sources of capital in Southeast Asia is essential to scaling up clean energy deployment.
Therefore, there are at least four follow-up questions to further discuss in the second episode of IESR’s energy transition sharing session. What are the investment criteria/decision-making parameters from the investors’ perspective to invest in clean energy in the region? How do they respond to the various market overview, policy & regulatory framework in SEA countries? What is the ideal/supportive financial system that can bring private finance sources in renewables? What are the key lessons for Indonesia to accelerate the clean energy uptake?
