Muhamad Yudistira Rahayu, commonly known as Yudis, is the Bali Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2045 Program Coordinator for the Sustainable Energy Access (SEA) Program at the Institute for Essential Service Reform (IESR). His responsibilities include assisting the SEA Program Manager in executing the Bali NZE 2045 strategy and activities, and ensuring that every activity within the Bali NZE 2045 project is carried out according to plan and meets targets and goals on time.
Before joining IESR, Yudis completed his master’s degree in Environmental Engineering with a focus on Environmental and Sustainability at the University of Padova, Italy. There, he conducted research at the Laboratory of Environmental Sanitary Engineering (LISA), focusing on the production of biohydrogen and biomethane from organic waste using microbial inoculum adapted through the anaerobic digestion process. He also presented at the 7th Symposium on Circular Economy and Urban Mining in Capri, Italy, where he was the lead author of a scientific publication titled “Banyumas’ local approach to zero waste: evaluating the efficiency of sustainable waste management strategies in developing countries” (ISBN: 9788862650403).
During his master’s studies, Yudis participated in a student exchange program at Jagiellonian University in Poland, focusing on the Network for Intercultural Competence to facilitate Entrepreneurship (NICE). This program also involved University College Dublin, University of Amsterdam, University of Edinburgh, and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Additionally, Yudis joined a student exchange program at the University of Sydney, Australia, where he engaged in a community-based industrial project themed Rethinking Food Systems. Yudis was also active in the Global Citizenship program, advocating for the importance of diversity and inclusion on campus. He built strong relationships with international students, Indonesian students in the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) Italy, and the local Italian community. In his spare time, Yudis often hiked in the Dolomites and the Alps and traveled to various European countries.
Before focusing on environmental fields, Yudis worked in the air logistics sector as an Air Logistics Revenue Care Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel. This experience gave him deep insights into supply chain, cost efficiency, and profitability in the logistics process.
To maintain a balance between work and life, Yudis not only keeps up with the development of renewable energy technology in Indonesia but also actively pursues hobbies such as exploring nature from mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, beaches to oceans, singing, cooking and baking (his specialty cakes are Brownies and Cheesecake), traveling both domestically and internationally, and socializing with his family, most of whom reside in Bogor, and his friends from high school to master’s, most of whom live in the Greater Jakarta area.
